Ways to overcome and cure Depression.
is essential to have the help and co-operation of friends and relatives for avoiding
and curing depression. This is the first medicine for the malady. For example,
if the person affected gets up very early in the morning due to sleeplessness,
the others should also get up with him/her; instead of getting angry with the
sufferer, the others should engage themselves in some work or other, or be reading
something. They should talk in a way to enthuse the individual, and improve his
self-confidence. The affected individual must always be kept in company of loving
family members and friends to show support. In early morning time they can go
for a walk or do some exercises with the person; or switch on the TV or radio
and watch/hear some dance or music. The person may be taken on a tour of some
new places. Only healthy foods must be offered; excess consumption of coffee or
tea should be discouraged.
and use of sleeping tablets to avoid sleeplessness should be strongly opposed.
The sleep so induced may increase the feeling of depression; there is also a possibility
of the victim making a suicidal attempt by taking an excess dose of the sedatives.
If the mind is at peace, sleep will automatically follow. Mental peace would be
affected by ruminating over some matter or other. The downhearted one should console
himself and engage in whatever activities are due to be done; the mind should
be engaged in what is pleasant to do or take part in sports activities. Loneliness
should be avoided as far as possible; togetherness with friends must be sought
for, especially in diversions like games. While doing this, there should be no
thoughts about what has been lost and whether it will be made good. The mind should
not have a truck with worries and anxieties; one should have the wits around to
be neutral to likes and dislikes. Sometimes anxiety with depression may become
serious enough to require therapeutic cure. Other disorders like hypertension,
diabetes may get aggravated and it may become necessary to seek the advice of
the physician as well the psychiatrist. When the mind is calm many physical problems
are well controlled.
Depression cannot be cured by divination or necromancy.
is not caused by witchcraft and trying to cure it with voodoo methods will obviously
fail. There may be an impression that some wizard is behind this malady. Actually
the muddle is a mental discord caused by confused thinking; the wrong thoughts
must be removed by control over the process of thinking; and in this, the role
of friends and relations are very important. The person should develop strength
of mind to face mishaps and misadventures in life. He or she should be oriented
towards spiritual thoughts and encouraged to adopt devotional methods of life.
This is a disorder of the mind. There is an essential need for the family and
friends to show an understanding attitude and a show of love and affection with
full support that is very much needed. Here is a need for the essential behavior
modification needed not only for the individual who is depressed in their outlook
in life but also for all their family members and friends to show that support
which is very much needed at that time of need.
Some pietistic procedures for leading a spiritual life-style.
and devotional ways of life lead to mental maturity. When one feels sorry that
what one wanted has not come to pass, it is these supernal thoughts that show
the right path. Those who are engrossed only in their personal physical and material
well-being should realize that beyond their life-style, there is a happier way
of life and try to follow the spiritual path. There should be a realization that
there is a divine force beyond our ken which decides on the fruits of our actions.
You cannot get an apple from a mango tree; and a red rose plant will give you
only red roses; and we will not get it as and when we want. Wishing for something
which is unnatural will only result in a fiasco. Nobody can change the acts of
nature destined by the God Almighty.
prayers with concentration give that tranquility of thoughts that is very much
needed. There are a number of books on the devotional path. Yoga and meditation
go a long way in reducing mental discords. As Lord Krishna said in Srimad Bhagavath
Gita, there should be a cognizance that our actions should not be governed by
their fruits. "The gains or losses arising out of your actions are not yours;
do not think of the outcome and do not refrain from doing your duty". (BG.
Chapter 2 - Sloka 47).
